TV Dinner

TV Dinner

The now iconic TV dinner was originally developed in 1953 by the granddaddy of all frozen food brands, C.A. Swanson & Sons.  In a pre-microwave oven era, the original frozen meal was packaged in an aluminum tray to be heated in the oven by the consumer.  Several companies had tried their hand at developing a prepackaged frozen meal, but it was Swanson’s TV Brand Frozen Dinner consisting of a traditional U.S. Thanksgiving meal that met with success.

This vintage illustration of a typical TV Dinner consisting of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables is available on apparel and home accessories at our Zazzle and Cafepress stores.
